Foster care is when a child or young person lives with a foster carer instead of their birth family for a while.

This can happen for lots of reasons, and it is never the child’s fault.

Foster carers are trained adults who:

• Look after you

• Keep you safe

• Help with school, health, and everyday life

• Care about you and your future​

Some children stay in foster care for a short time, and some stay for longer. Everyone’s journey is different.
